Project Scope and Strategy

The project scope will consist of three main stages. The objective of the first stage is to design and prepare the health facility of the Yemen Academic Hospital in Taiz city as per international standards with an educational and research center. The second stage will be to make sure that the hospital is operational. And in the third stage we look to develop and expand.

Stage I (Readiness and Preparedness): (1-June-2021 To 1-January-2022)

  1. Forming Project Steering Board.
  2. Hiring a suitable building, and modifying the health facility  b construction, including water system, sewage   and waste disposal, air-conditioning, and  electrical systems to   perform effectively as a  hospital, educational and research center. The new Yemen Academic  Hospital in Taiz city  anticipates to  accommodate 60 beds, (40 ward beds, 10 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, and 10  Neonatal ICU beds with incubators). Two buildings with a total area of 1,200 square meters, accommodating 70 beds, (50 ward beds, 10 ICU beds, and 10 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit beds with incubators)

i . The first five floors with

  • Ground floor: For emergency department, observation rooms, reception, radiology unit, lab, pharmacy, services
  • First floor: Operation theater (OT) with four operation rooms (ORs), sterilization unit, ICU, and neonatal ICU
  • Second floor: for male general medical ward, with 20 beds and nursing station
  • Third floor: for female general medical ward, with 20 beds and nursing station
  • Fourth floor: for administration and an educational center. Including 2 large education halls and a library.

ii. The second one story building will be made as

  • an outpatient department with the various 10 speciality clinics, and endoscopy unit
  • Ultrasound, echocardiography, and ECG rooms.
  • Subunit for labor and obstetric services.
  • Provide the necessary medical equipment, instruments, devices and furniture. (Attached below is the need list)
  • Purchasing medications and medical supplies.
  • Staff recruitment. In addition to providing capacity development in the form of staff training in subjects that are  conducive to enhanced health service quality.

Stage II: (Start Working): (1-January-2022 – Sustainable)

  1. Start providing medical and surgical care
  2. Start opening educational programs and courses, and students recruitment
  3. Regular maintenance of building and equipment
  4. Logistic and operations

Stage III: (Development and Expansion): (1-January-2022 – 1-January-2032)

  1. We look to expand the initial departments, and open new departments, to provide more unique and deficit medical services.
  2. And within the following ten years, we look to open 2 similar hospitals at
    o Al Turbah city, and
    o Mokha city
